Politically correct, methinks?

From the map, I see that Grapefruit Ponderings has now managed to span across four continents. Africa, Europe, and the penguins in Antarctica have yet to be reached, but it's possible. Hopefully now that new posts are coming in, more people will start looking.
While we're on the subject of countries, let's focus on America. I'm assuming that mainly (if only) Republicans visit my blog. Since that is the most likely, I think y'all will enjoy this ballad that I wrote for my English class. I decided to base mine on the 19th century nursery rhymes, being allegorical and satirical in content (and mostly toward the government of the time... think of "Humpty Dumpty" and "Little Miss Muffet").
So, here is my semi-serious version of where the US is most likely headed...

-----------------------------------------------

The lame duck died; the forest had
To choose a leader fresh.
Elected to the seat was one,
An eagle, to refresh.

Persuading words had carried him
To this great position,
He stood before them promising
That “change” was his mission.

“More hope I’ll give you,” was a line,
He used ‘gainst commoners,
Convincing them he was the same
As them. (Just merely words.)

Resources scarce he used to give
“In kindness, not in greed”;
He gave what they had not obtained
To those who had no need.

These creatures of the forest once
Had principles of “give,”
But upheld powers taking goods
And needed wares to live.

The poverty had stricken folk
In settings high and low;
It would take seasons long to fix
The change that was bestowed.

Now realizing that his plan
May not have been the best,
The eagle then decided to
“Restore those in distress.”

(They got the promised change, alright;
Down to “Restore”’s last breath.)
Instead, before the plan went through,
The forest starved to death.

Best part of this whole thing: Mr. Hunt gave me an A+.

Had all the forest's creatures instead just turn to God,
The problems they were facing may have well dissolved.
While the situation was horrible indeed,
This poem was rather epic, and quite the enjoyable read!
